According to other bloggers, Pinterest might be one of the fastest social media platforms right now, with over 40million users. Also, it has been noted that people who pin, are more likely to buy the products they pin than those they 'like', 'tweet' or otherwise note via other social media platforms. So, when you do the math, that sounds like a pretty good place to invest some social media hours. But before we do that, let's look at what this thing called Pinterest is.
It's a bookmarking site
The idea behind Pinterest is to be able to create visual bookmarks (or pins) for sites you've visited so that you'll be able to remember and revisit later. Pins are categorized and posted on boards. A board, in essence, is a visual composition on a particular subject. The social aspect of this site is that the boards you've created can be followed by friends and fans, thus providing a potential for viral marketing. There are two ways to get your message onto Pinterest. Get an account and start creating your own boards with pins, or make it easy for folks to pin images on your website or blog onto their boards.
Pinterest is visual
The most important aspect to understand is that this is a visual medium. It relies on pictures to tell the story. That's why there's a picture at the top of this blog. I hope that you will consider pinning it on one of your Pinterest boards as a reminder and bookmark back to this site. When you do, one of your followers might see the image and be curious to see where it came from.
Yes, it takes time
Time to gather a following as well as a regular time commitment to keep it going. Fortunately, it doesn't have to take a lot of time to make a few pins. Most pundits I've read so far recommend 3-5 pins per day. I'm going to start slower with Acumen Social's pinning, and only concentrate on one per blog post for now. Hopefully, that won't be too few pins to notice when you start following my boards.
